Vinicius Jr’s Appeal Denied: Two-Match Ban Upheld
Real Madrid’s attempt to reduce Vinicius Jr’s suspension has been unsuccessful. The Appeals Committee has rejected the club’s appeal, confirming that the Brazilian forward will serve the full two-match ban imposed by the Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The suspension stems from an incident during the La Liga match against Valencia on January 3rd. Vinicius was shown a straight red card in the 80th minute for striking Valencia goalkeeper Dimitrievski in the face during an off-the-ball altercation.
Real Madrid had appealed the decision, arguing that Vinicius acted in response to provocation from the Valencia goalkeeper. However, the Appeals Committee dismissed this claim, stating that while provocation could be considered a mitigating factor, it does not justify further reducing the already minimum sanction imposed.
As a result, Vinicius will miss Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga fixtures against Las Palmas (January 19) and Valladolid (January 25). The club now has 15 days to decide whether to pursue a final appeal to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD).
If no further action is taken, the two-match suspension will stand, leaving Real Madrid without one of their key attacking players for these crucial league matches.
