Vieira: Genoa Must Be More Aggressive Against Napoli
Genoa manager Patrick Vieira has emphasized the need for his team to take a more proactive approach in their upcoming match against Napoli. Despite recent defensive successes, Vieira believes Genoa must focus on creating more scoring opportunities.
“We’re facing a team competing for the league title, which demonstrates their strength,” Vieira stated. “However, we’re in good form, and we need to harness the positive energy from our supporters to mount an offensive and try to score goals.”
Since taking over from Alberto Gilardino, Vieira has maintained an unbeaten record, though three of his four matches have ended in draws. For the Napoli clash, he’s made tactical adjustments, pairing strikers Vitinha and Andrea Pinamonti.
Vieira explained, “We must play our own game. While Napoli is formidable, we also possess quality. Playing at home, we need to generate more chances.”
The coach expressed confidence in Vitinha’s recent training performances and outlined his defensive strategy: “We need to stay compact and deny them space between the lines where they can exploit their technical skills. Off the ball, we must be extremely vigilant.”
Genoa has shown defensive prowess with three consecutive clean sheets. However, they’ve struggled offensively, failing to score in three of Vieira’s four matches at the helm. The team aims to find a balance between their solid defense and a more potent attack as they face the challenging Napoli side.
