Tottenham Target £32m Star as Potential James Maddison Rival
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt as a potential signing to compete with James Maddison for the attacking midfield role.
According to reports from Spain, Spurs view the addition of the German international as a “significant” move to improve their squad. While no transfer fee is mentioned, Brandt’s market value is estimated around £32 million.
The 27-year-old Brandt has impressed for Dortmund this season with 3 goals and 6 assists in 19 appearances so far. Over the past two seasons, he has averaged a goal or assist every 1.88 games – slightly better than Maddison’s rate of 2.07 games.
Brandt’s versatility is seen as a major asset, with the ability to play across the attacking midfield positions as well as out wide. He has also demonstrated better availability than Maddison, missing far fewer games through injury in recent years.
While Maddison remains a key player for Spurs, the potential arrival of Brandt could provide valuable competition and depth in the creative midfield area. His signing would significantly strengthen Tottenham’s attacking options if a deal can be agreed.
Manager Ange Postecoglou is keen to add more quality to the squad as Spurs look to climb back up the Premier League table in the second half of the season. The capture of a player of Brandt’s caliber could be a major boost to those ambitions.
