Tottenham Set Sights on Feyenoord Star as Defensive Reinforcement
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly targeting Feyenoord defender David Hancko as a potential January signing to bolster their backline. The North London club is seeking quality defensive cover, particularly for injured star Micky van de Ven.
Manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that both van de Ven and Cristian Romero will be sidelined until early 2025, leaving Spurs short of center-back options. This has forced the Australian to deploy teenager Archie Gray as a makeshift defender alongside new signing Radu Dragusin.
According to reports, Tottenham view Hancko as an ideal backup for van de Ven on the left side of defense. The 26-year-old Slovakian international has impressed in the Eredivisie, leading the league in progressive carries from the back this season.
Hancko was previously valued at £35 million, but his price tag is expected to decrease, making a January move more feasible for Spurs. The defender has earned praise for his all-around abilities, with former Feyenoord player Tim de Cler stating Hancko “can easily handle a club just below the top six in Europe.”
With Tottenham pushing for a top-four finish, reinforcing their injury-hit defense appears to be a priority for the January transfer window. Hancko’s ball-playing skills and versatility could make him an astute addition as Postecoglou looks to implement his attacking style of play.
