Tottenham scouts pursuing £25m “monster” defender as January upgrade
Tottenham Hotspur showed signs of improvement under Ange Postecoglou last season, but still fell short in the Premier League. The Australian manager has transformed Spurs into an exciting attacking team, reigniting hope among supporters.
However, Tottenham’s defense remains vulnerable, especially with key center-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven missing significant time through injuries. This has forced Postecoglou to use makeshift options like 18-year-old Archie Gray in defense.
To address this issue, Spurs are reportedly targeting Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck as a potential January signing. The 23-year-old German could be available for around £25 million.
Standing at 6’4″, Bisseck would provide the physical presence and natural center-back skills Tottenham’s backline currently lacks. His strong passing ability and comfort carrying the ball forward also fit Postecoglou’s possession-based system.
While versatile youngster Archie Gray has performed admirably when called upon in defense, his long-term future likely lies in midfield. Bringing in an established center-back like Bisseck would allow Gray to develop in his natural position.
With Tottenham competing on multiple fronts this season, adding defensive depth is crucial. Securing Bisseck’s signature in January could prove pivotal in Spurs’ push for Champions League qualification and potential cup success.
The North London club will need to act decisively, as West Ham are also reportedly interested in the Inter defender. Losing out on a top target to a London rival would be a significant blow to Tottenham’s ambitions.
Ultimately, signing Bisseck represents a prime opportunity for Spurs to upgrade their defense and provide the depth needed to compete at the highest level across all competitions in the second half of the season.
