Tottenham explores January move for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor
Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly initiated contact with Brazilian club Botafogo regarding a potential January transfer for goalkeeper John Victor. The 28-year-old Brazilian Serie A title winner could be available for under £10 million, according to recent reports.
With first-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario sidelined due to injury, Spurs are exploring options to reinforce their goalkeeping ranks during the upcoming transfer window. Manager Ange Postecoglou has not ruled out January signings following meetings with the club’s recruitment team.
Brazilian outlet UOL reports that Tottenham has reached out to Botafogo about Victor “in recent days”, with Manchester United also expressing interest. The goalkeeper’s estimated price tag is believed to be in the £7-8 million range.
Postecoglou faces selection challenges across multiple positions due to injuries and suspensions. Key players like Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Yves Bissouma and others are currently unavailable.
While the manager says January plans will depend on the squad’s status at that time, he confirmed ongoing transfer strategy discussions with sporting director Johan Lange. Tottenham’s injury situation and busy fixture list could prompt reinforcements when the window opens.
Victor, who helped Botafogo win the Brazilian league title, appears to be a realistic target as Spurs look to add depth behind Vicario. The club is “expected to enter the transfer market” in January, making a move for the Brazilian keeper a strong possibility.
