Tottenham consider £9m loss to offload inconsistent midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to take a significant financial hit to sell midfielder Yves Bissouma next year. The club is prepared to accept around £16 million for the Mali international, which would represent a £9 million loss on the £25 million they paid to sign him from Brighton in 2022.

Despite showing flashes of quality at times, Bissouma has struggled for consistency since joining Spurs. Manager Ange Postecoglou has been unable to rely on the midfielder as a regular starter due to erratic performances and disciplinary issues.

Bissouma has picked up 23 yellow cards, 1 red card and multiple suspensions during his time at Tottenham. He has also missed 23 games through injury for club and country since joining.

While talented on his day, Bissouma’s inability to maintain form and avoid cards has frustrated the Spurs hierarchy. The club now appears ready to cut their losses on the 26-year-old less than two years after his arrival.

Selling Bissouma would allow Tottenham to reinvest in Postecoglou’s squad rebuild. Though taking a financial hit is not ideal, moving on an inconsistent player could benefit the team in the long run as they look to establish themselves as top four contenders again.
