Toni Kroos Opens Up About Inter Milan Interest and Ancelotti’s Influence
In a recent interview, retired German midfielder Toni Kroos shared insights into his illustrious career, including his thoughts on Italian football and his relationship with former coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Kroos, who hung up his boots last summer after a decade-long stint at Real Madrid, was honored with the Golden Player Man 2024 Award by Tuttosport. Speaking to the Italian publication, he reflected on various aspects of his career.
The World Cup winner credited Ancelotti for his move to Madrid in 2014, saying, “Ancelotti was instrumental in bringing me to Real after the World Cup. He had a vision to elevate the team further, even after their Champions League triumph. His support made my transition from Bayern Munich much smoother.”
Kroos also expressed his pleasure at Ancelotti’s unexpected return to Madrid in 2021, noting how it was welcomed by the team’s veterans.
When asked about Italian football, Kroos admitted there had been interest from Serie A clubs during his time in Spain, but his loyalty to Real Madrid was unwavering. However, he did reveal a soft spot for one Italian team: “If I were still playing, I could see myself fitting in well at Inter Milan. Their confident, possession-based style is impressive.”
The interview provided a rare glimpse into the mindset of one of modern football’s most decorated midfielders, highlighting his respect for Italian football and the lasting impact of his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti.
