Tijjani Reijnders’ Salary Boost After Milan Contract Extension
Tijjani Reijnders, the versatile Dutch midfielder, has emerged as a standout performer for AC Milan during a challenging period for the club. His ability to seamlessly transition between defensive and attacking roles has caught the attention of the Milan management, leading to a contract extension.
The new agreement extends Reijnders’ contract until June 2029, adding an extra year to his previous deal. As a reward for his impressive on-field performances, Reijnders will see his annual net salary more than double, increasing from €1.7 million to €3.5 million. The new contract also includes performance-based bonuses tied to both individual and team achievements.
Interestingly, Milan will continue to benefit from the Growth Decree tax advantages on Reijnders’ contract, as these benefits apply to renewals of players who were already eligible.
Reijnders’ journey to Milan is noteworthy. In the summer of 2023, the Rossoneri invested approximately €20 million to secure his services from AZ Alkmaar. Despite interest from other clubs, including brief talks with Lazio, Milan pursued the deal aggressively. Perhaps most surprisingly, Reijnders turned down interest from Barcelona to join Milan.
His father revealed in an interview that he had advised his son to reject Barcelona’s offer, believing that Reijnders might struggle for playing time there and potentially fail to make an impact. The decision to choose Milan over other interested parties, including some English clubs, appears to have paid off for the Dutch midfielder.
