Theo Hernandez May Be Benched Again for Milan’s Match Against Roma
AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca appears to be reconsidering Theo Hernandez’s role as an automatic starter for the team. Reports suggest Fonseca may opt to keep Hernandez on the bench for Milan’s upcoming fixture against Roma, with Alex Jimenez currently viewed as the preferred choice at left-back.
Hernandez, the French international, has found himself relegated to the bench for Milan’s past two matches. While Fonseca was forced to bring Hernandez on as a substitute against Verona due to an injury to Rafael Leão, the manager was reportedly dissatisfied with Hernandez’s performance.
According to Italian media, Fonseca openly criticized Hernandez’s attitude in front of other Milan players, further straining their relationship. Despite previously praising Hernandez as the “world’s best full-back”, Fonseca places great emphasis on players’ training attitude and commitment.
Jimenez is expected to retain his starting position when Milan host Roma this weekend. This situation may persist until Hernandez demonstrates improvements in both his on-field performances and overall conduct, similar to how Leão regained his spot after being dropped earlier in the season.
With Hernandez’s contract set to expire in 2026, Milan face a decision on whether to extend his deal or entertain offers from potential suitors, including Manchester United. The coming weeks could prove crucial in determining Hernandez’s future at the San Siro.
