Spain’s National Team Coach Confident in Team’s World-Class Status
Luis de la Fuente, the head coach of Spain’s national football team, has expressed his belief that the Spanish squad ranks among the world’s top national teams. In a recent interview, de la Fuente shared his thoughts on the team’s current standing and future prospects.
“While I can’t claim we’re the absolute best, Spain certainly belongs in the elite group of national teams,” de la Fuente stated. He pointed to the team’s performance in the recent European Championship as evidence of their competitiveness, modern playing style, and winning mentality. The coach acknowledged the presence of other formidable teams both within Europe and globally but emphasized Spain’s ability to compete at the highest level.
Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup, de la Fuente expressed optimism about the team’s potential. “The 18 months leading up to the tournament will pass quickly, but we’re prepared and I’m genuinely optimistic,” he said. The coach praised his players’ insatiable desire for success and predicted further improvement in the squad’s performance.
De la Fuente anticipates the emergence of new talent and the continued growth of current players. “By the time we reach the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, we’ll be even stronger than we are now,” he asserted confidently.
The 2026 World Cup will feature 16 teams from Europe, with the European qualification process set to begin in March 2025 and conclude with playoff matches in March 2026.
