Southampton target Glen Kamara as second midfield addition
Southampton are reportedly in negotiations to sign midfielder Glen Kamara from Rennes, as they aim to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window. This comes after the club agreed a deal to bring in Albert Gronbaek on loan from the same French side.
The Saints are desperate for reinforcements as they battle against relegation, currently sitting bottom of the Premier League table. Manager Ivan Juric is looking to add quality and experience to his midfield options for the remainder of the season.
Kamara only joined Rennes last summer from Leeds United, but has struggled to establish himself in Ligue 1. The Finland international has been frozen out of the squad recently and appears likely to move on this month.
While no fee has been mentioned, Rennes are believed to want a permanent transfer rather than another loan deal. Kamara still has over three years left on his contract worth around £30,000 per week.
The 29-year-old has previous experience in English football with Arsenal and Leeds, as well as a successful spell in Scotland with Rangers. His tenacity and work-rate in midfield could provide a boost for Southampton’s survival hopes.
If a deal can be agreed, Kamara would potentially join Gronbaek as Southampton’s second midfield addition of the window. The club are working hard to improve their squad and give themselves the best chance of avoiding relegation to the Championship.
