Southampton Pursues “Elite” Manager with Offer to Take Charge at St Mary’s
According to recent reports, Premier League side Southampton have made a significant offer to West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan in their efforts to find a new head coach. The Saints are looking to replace Russell Martin, who was recently dismissed from the role.
Southampton have been exploring both domestic and international options as they search for their next manager. While out-of-work coaches like former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand and ex-Roma manager Ivan Juric have been considered, the club has also shown interest in currently employed managers such as Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl.
However, Spanish outlet AS reports that Southampton have now tabled an “important offer” to Corberan, who has impressed during his time at West Brom. The 41-year-old Spaniard, described as an “elite” coach by some observers, has previous experience working under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United before taking charge at Huddersfield Town and then West Brom.
Southampton are said to be “convinced” that Corberan is the right man to lead their project going forward. The club is prepared to give him significant control and is now awaiting his response to their proposal. With his attractive playing style and proven ability to improve teams in the Championship, Corberan has emerged as a top target for the Saints as they look to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
