Simeone Reflects on Atletico’s Victory Against Barcelona

Atletico Madrid’s head coach Diego Simeone shared his thoughts on the team’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the 18th round of La Liga. The Argentine manager expressed his joy while acknowledging the challenging nature of the match.

“I won’t hide it, I’m thrilled,” Simeone began. “We had to struggle as Barcelona is an excellent team that constantly attacks. Several of our players performed exceptionally well in defense, especially Jan Oblak. This allowed us to survive the onslaught.”

Simeone noted an improvement in his team’s performance after halftime. “In the second half, we started playing better,” he explained. “Barcelona had numerous chances, but lady luck was on our side. When you attack so much, you can get confused. We showed patience and capitalized on a counter-attack, with Sorloth scoring a brilliant goal.”

The Atletico manager also commented on Barcelona’s recent run of poor results. “I have no doubt that Barcelona didn’t deserve to lose all the games they’ve lost. They had many opportunities in matches against Leganes and Las Palmas, but that’s football. When the ball doesn’t go into the net, problems start to arise,” Simeone remarked.

This victory marks Atletico’s seventh consecutive win in La Liga, while Barcelona has suffered four defeats and two draws in their last seven games. Following this match, Atletico Madrid has climbed to the top of the league table with 41 points, while Barcelona sits in second place with 38 points. Real Madrid occupies the third spot with 37 points.
