Serie A: Lazio clinch 2-1 win against 10-man Lecce
Lazio secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Lecce, who were reduced to 10 men late in the first half. The visitors had to wait until the 87th minute to find a winner through Adam Marusic’s volley.
Taty Castellanos put Lazio ahead from the penalty spot just before halftime after Frederic Guilbert was sent off for handball. Lecce equalized early in the second half through Tete Morente, but Marusic’s late strike gave Lazio all three points.
The result sees Lazio bounce back from their heavy 6-0 defeat to Inter in their previous match. Despite being a man down, Lecce put up a strong fight and were unlucky not to come away with a point after hitting the woodwork in stoppage time.
Lazio dominated possession but struggled to break down the determined 10 men of Lecce for long periods. The hosts defended resolutely and threatened on the counter-attack, with Morente’s equalizer giving them hope of an upset.
However, Marusic’s late volley from the edge of the area finally broke Lecce’s resistance and secured an important away victory for Lazio as they look to climb up the Serie A table.
