Sergio Conceição Declines Nantes’ Offer for Managerial Position

According to recent reports, Portuguese coach Sergio Conceição has rejected an offer to return as manager of FC Nantes. The French club had identified the former FC Porto boss as a potential replacement for their current head coach, Antoine Kombouaré, whose position seems increasingly precarious following a string of poor results.

Conceição, who previously led Nantes to a respectable 7th place finish in 2017, was considered a top target by the club’s management. However, the 50-year-old tactician has opted not to pursue a second stint with Les Canaris, leaving the team to explore alternative options.

With Conceição out of the picture, Nantes is reportedly making progress in discussions with Habib Beye. The 47-year-old former Senegalese international recently stepped down from his role as head coach of Red Star, where he successfully guided the team to promotion to Ligue 2. It’s understood that Beye has already met with Franck Kita, the club’s deputy CEO and son of owner Waldemar Kita.

In addition to Beye, Nantes is also considering an unnamed French coach for the position. Meanwhile, current manager Kombouaré is expected to remain in charge for the team’s upcoming Coupe de France match against lower-league side Drancy, despite mounting pressure following a recent 4-1 defeat to Brest.

As Nantes continues its search for a new manager, the club faces the challenge of turning around its fortunes and climbing up the Ligue 1 table in the latter half of the season.
