Scamacca: “I’m Close to Returning and Can Play Alongside Retegui”

Atalanta forward Gianluca Scamacca, who is recovering from a long-term injury sustained during summer friendlies, spoke to Sky at the Gazzetta Sport Awards:

“Gasperini is a top coach for me, undoubtedly the best I’ve ever had. Working with him is intense; he teaches you day by day. You have to keep up with him; he’s a football professor.”

On his return: “It’s been four and a half months since the injury. At six months, there’s no set date. It depends on how I feel. We need to test and see, but I can say it won’t be long now.”

On Atalanta’s prospects: “Can Atalanta stay at the top until the end? I’m not superstitious. It’s a long season, there’s still a lot to go. For now, we’re there, thinking game by game, and we’ll sum up at the end. Scudetto? No, we don’t mention it in the locker room because it’s too early. It’s right to keep our feet on the ground.”

On Retegui: “Atalanta was very strong and prepared to fill a gap. They made a great choice, signing the strongest and most promising striker on the market. Can we play together when I return? Of course we can, we’ve done it with the national team. But it will be up to the coach to decide.”
