Roma’s Crisis: A Deeper Problem Than Expected

Roma’s Crisis: A Deeper Problem Than Expected

Even Claudio Ranieri seems to have underestimated the severity of Roma’s situation. The brief optimism following two consecutive victories has quickly dissipated after a shocking defeat to Como. This loss is as concerning as the one in Verona, if not more so, as it plunges Roma back into a nightmare scenario they thought they had escaped.

The defeat at Sinigaglia was the result of an inexplicable starting lineup and a lacklustre performance from the players. It forces Roma to look over their shoulder once again, with the terrifying prospect of being drawn into a relegation battle for which neither the players, the club, nor the fans are prepared.

The truth is that this Roma team is so poorly constructed that it may need to be completely dismantled and rebuilt from scratch. However, this can’t be done in January, and meanwhile, the team has shown that it can lose to anyone, even teams at the bottom of the table.

Key players are underperforming: Dybala is no longer making an impact, Pellegrini’s decline continues, Dovbyk has stopped scoring, and Soulé struggles with his limitations as an individualistic player lacking high-level experience. Without their contributions, the team struggles to create chances and score goals.

The greatest danger, however, is the lack of awareness of the real problems. From the Friedkins to Ranieri, from the players to the external environment (fans and media), no one seems to have fully grasped the gravity of the situation. Points need to be gained immediately, starting with the upcoming match against Parma. There’s no more room for error.

The upcoming Coppa Italia match against Sampdoria and the Europa League provide opportunities to build something positive for the remainder of the season. It’s clear that the league campaign will be a struggle until the end, but it’s crucial not to let it turn into a disaster.
