Romanian Businessman Dan Șucu Acquires Majority Stake in Genoa FC

Genoa Football Club has officially announced a change in ownership, with Romanian entrepreneur Dan Șucu acquiring a controlling interest in the Serie A team. The club confirmed on Wednesday that Șucu has purchased approximately 77% of Genoa’s shares through a capital increase valued at over €45 million.

This acquisition marks a new chapter for Italy’s oldest football club, which had been seeking new investors following the bankruptcy of its previous owners, 777 Partners, in October. The investment by Șucu is expected to bring much-needed financial stability and enable new investments in the team and its infrastructure.

Dan Șucu, a 61-year-old businessman, is already the owner of Romanian club Rapid Bucharest and the founder of Mobexpert, Romania’s largest furniture brand. He has also invested in real estate and media sectors, and is known for his approach to using football as a means of promoting social impact.

In a statement, Genoa expressed gratitude to their fans for their continued support and looked forward to a future that would further strengthen the club’s prestige and success. The club also highlighted Șucu’s background, noting his role as president of the Confederația Patronală Concordia, the Romanian equivalent of the Italian employers’ federation Confindustria.

Șucu’s investment in Genoa follows his successful involvement with Rapid Bucharest, where he has focused on modernizing infrastructure and developing a youth academy. His approach emphasizes leveraging football as a tool for social development, aiming to engage young people in sports and promote values of inclusion and personal growth.

The change in ownership comes at a time when Genoa’s on-field performance has shown signs of improvement. Under new manager Patrick Vieira, appointed after the November international break, the team has gone unbeaten in Serie A, securing one win and three draws, including a notable result against AC Milan.

As Genoa enters this new era under Dan Șucu’s ownership, fans and observers alike will be watching closely to see how this change impacts the historic club’s fortunes both on and off the pitch.
