Rising Star: Sébastian Nanasi’s Impressive Start at Strasbourg
Swedish talent Sébastian Nanasi has made an immediate impact since joining Strasbourg for €11 million in the summer of 2024. The former Malmö FF winger has quickly established himself as a regular starter in Ligue 1, featuring in every match since his debut against Rennes on August 25th.
In just over 1000 minutes of play, Nanasi has already contributed four goals and three assists, continuing the impressive form that attracted attention from top European clubs during his time in Sweden. Born in Kristianstad in 2002, Nanasi was eligible to represent Hungary internationally before committing to Sweden.
Nanasi’s journey to Strasbourg began with his local club Kristianstad FC before joining Malmö FF in 2020. After successful loan spells at Varbergs BoIS and Kalmar FF, he became a key player for Malmö, amassing 26 goals and 22 assists in 94 appearances by the age of 22. His performances in the Champions League, including three goals against Greek side PAOK, further highlighted his potential.
The young winger made his senior debut for Sweden in January 2023 and has since earned six caps, scoring three international goals. Nanasi’s versatility allows him to play across the midfield and even as a center forward when needed. His impressive xG of 0.32 per 90 minutes places him among the top 17% of wingers in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year.
While Nanasi’s attacking prowess is evident, there is room for improvement in his defensive work rate. However, this may be attributed to the demanding schedule he has faced in 2024. Despite speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea due to BlueCo’s ownership of both clubs, Nanasi’s immediate future appears to be with Strasbourg as he continues to develop his skills in Ligue 1.
