Report: Xavi in Negotiations with AC Milan for Potential Coaching Role
According to Catalan news outlet El Nacional, former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is reportedly engaged in advanced discussions with AC Milan regarding a potential coaching position. The talks are said to be centered around the possibility of Xavi taking over from current Milan boss Paulo Fonseca in the near future.
Xavi, who departed Barcelona last summer, is currently unattached to any club. The report suggests that Milan’s leadership is looking to implement a new footballing philosophy and views Xavi as an ideal candidate to lead this transformation.
However, Italian sources such as TMW and Milannews have expressed skepticism about these claims, stating that they are unconfirmed. It remains unclear whether Milan is seeking an immediate replacement for Fonseca or planning for the 2024-25 season.
AC Milan’s current performance in Serie A may be influencing the club’s decision-making process. The team currently sits in 8th place, trailing 14 points behind league leaders Atalanta, albeit with one game in hand.
Fonseca, who was appointed as Stefano Pioli’s successor last summer, signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year. The coming months will likely be crucial in determining his future with the club, as Milan’s leadership will be expecting improved results.
