Ranieri: Roma Must Prioritize Serie A Performance to Lure Elite Managers
Claudio Ranieri stressed that AS Roma must concentrate on improving their Serie A standing, even after their convincing 4-1 victory against Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia Round of 16. The interim manager warned that without better league results, the club will struggle to attract top-tier coaching talent.
Roma’s dominant win, featuring goals from Dovbyk, Baldanzi and Shomurodov, set up a quarter-final clash with AC Milan. However, Ranieri was quick to emphasize that league performance remains the priority.
“We’re in a difficult period, which is why I was brought in,” Ranieri remarked post-match. “The team showed great determination tonight, which was crucial after our poor showing against Como. In football, quality alone isn’t enough – you need a strong sense of team spirit and competitiveness.”
Addressing questions about Roma’s search for a permanent manager, Ranieri stated: “Our focus must be on the league. Without success there, we can’t expect to attract elite coaches.”
Ranieri will lead Roma until the end of the 2024-25 season before transitioning to a directorial role. He will also assist in the club’s search for his long-term successor.
