Ranieri: Como showed greater determination against Roma
Following Roma’s 2-0 defeat to Como, coach Claudio Ranieri offered his perspective on the match, acknowledging the opponent’s superior motivation while standing by his team’s performance.
Ranieri stated, “I must give credit to Como. They displayed a stronger will to win.” He noted Como’s tactical shift to a five-man defense and a change in mentality, which he had cautioned his players about beforehand.
The coach expressed disappointment in Como consistently winning second balls and a defensive lapse leading to the first goal. However, he maintained that Roma had opportunities to score in the second half.
While admitting Roma’s performance dipped after halftime, Ranieri refused to criticize his players’ effort. He praised the team’s first-half showing but conceded that Como’s determination ultimately made the difference.
Ranieri also discussed tactical decisions, including the use of Dybala as a false nine and the introduction of Dovbyk from the bench. He emphasized the need for Dovbyk to regain fitness after recent health issues.
The coach stressed the importance of adapting to the match’s intensity and the referee’s style. He concluded by expressing cautious optimism about the team’s spirit, despite the disappointing result.
“We must continue with the desire to elevate Roma’s standing,” Ranieri affirmed, looking ahead to future challenges.
