PSG sets sights on Newcastle’s Guimaraes as primary transfer target
According to recent reports, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has identified Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as their top transfer priority for the upcoming summer window. The French champions are reportedly willing to make a substantial offer of up to £83 million (€100 million) to secure the Brazilian’s services.
Newcastle finds itself in a precarious position as it attempts to retain its star players while navigating financial constraints that have hindered the club’s progress. The potential departure of striker Alexander Isak to Arsenal has already raised concerns, but PSG’s interest in Guimaraes presents an even greater challenge.
Guimaraes, who has been praised as “world-class” by both former Newcastle defender Jose Enrique and current manager Eddie Howe, has become an integral part of the team since his arrival. His attacking contributions have improved each season, with the midfielder ranking in the top percentiles for assists and successful dribbles among his peers.
While selling Guimaraes could provide Newcastle with much-needed funds to comply with Premier League financial regulations, replacing a player of his caliber would prove extremely difficult. As such, the club is expected to resist PSG’s advances unless the player himself pushes for a move.
The coming months will likely see intense speculation surrounding Guimaraes’ future, as Newcastle attempts to balance its financial needs with its ambitions to compete at the highest level both domestically and in Europe.
