PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma’s contract talks paused amid uncertainty
Gianluigi Donnarumma, Paris Saint-Germain’s 25-year-old goalkeeper, is facing challenges to his position as the team’s first-choice shot-stopper. This development has impacted ongoing discussions about extending his contract with the club.
The arrival of Matvei Safonov last summer has intensified competition for the starting goalkeeper role. Donnarumma has struggled under the increased pressure, particularly in Champions League matches, resulting in his replacement during some crucial games in recent months.
Reports suggest that the Italian keeper is dissatisfied with his current situation, which could influence contract negotiations. Donnarumma’s existing agreement with PSG is set to expire in June 2026.
His agent, Enzo Raiola, recently commented on the situation, stating, “Regarding Donnarumma’s future at PSG, we’re currently in a period of contemplation. We’ll see what happens. At the moment, contract discussions are on hold.”
Following a collision with Wilfried Singo during a recent match against AS Monaco, Donnarumma is expected to be sidelined for approximately two weeks. This absence provides an opportunity for Safonov to further establish himself in the team, potentially casting additional doubt on Donnarumma’s long-term prospects with the club.
