Pep Guardiola Reveals Plans to End Club Coaching Career
In a surprising revelation, Pep Guardiola, the current manager of Manchester City, has announced that he will not coach any other club team after his tenure with the English champions. This declaration comes amid a challenging period for City, who have secured only one victory in their last nine matches.
Speaking on Dani García’s podcast “Desmontadido,” Guardiola stated emphatically, “I will not manage another club team. I don’t speak about the distant future, but what I won’t do is leave Manchester City and go to another country to do the same thing. I wouldn’t have the energy… The idea of starting over somewhere else, going through the whole process of team building and so on… No, no, no!”
However, Guardiola’s statement doesn’t necessarily signal an imminent retirement from football altogether. He hinted at the possibility of managing a national team in the future, saying, “Perhaps a national team, but that’s different…” This suggests that while his club career may be winding down, his involvement in football could continue in a different capacity.
The Catalan coach, who recently extended his contract with Manchester City for one year (with an option for another), is likely to conclude his tenure with the ‘Sky Blues’ around 2026 or 2027. After that, it appears he will step away from club football permanently.
Guardiola’s announcement has sent shockwaves through the football world, given his status as one of the most successful and influential managers of his generation. His decision to limit his future in club management will undoubtedly impact the landscape of top-tier football coaching in the coming years.
