Paul-Georges Ntep Announces Retirement from Professional Football

Paul-Georges Ntep, the 32-year-old former winger for Stade Rennais and AJ Auxerre, has officially ended his professional football career. Ntep shared this news during a recent interview.

Ntep’s journey in professional football began in the 2010/11 season with Auxerre, his formative club. He made his debut in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Bastia, which Auxerre won 4-0. That same season, Ntep was included in the club’s Champions League squad, though he only made one appearance as a substitute.

The winger’s career peaked during his time at Rennes from 2014 to 2017, where his performances earned him two caps for the French national team. However, a transfer to VFL Wolfsburg in Germany marked the beginning of a decline in Ntep’s career trajectory. He did not receive any further call-ups to the French national team, but went on to represent Cameroon four times from 2018 onwards.

Ntep’s final match as a professional footballer was in March 2024, playing for Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Despite rumors of potential contract termination due to underwhelming performances, Ntep spoke positively about his experience with the Vietnamese club.

Reflecting on his retirement, Ntep stated, “I’ve moved on mentally and have new projects in mind. I enjoyed my experiences, particularly my time in Vietnam. For me now, football represents good memories, but that chapter of my life has concluded.”
