Panathinaikos Weighs Permanent Transfer for Azzedine Ounahi

Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, who joined Olympique de Marseille after an impressive showing at the 2022 World Cup, struggled to meet expectations at the French club. Plagued by injuries and inconsistent form, the 24-year-old failed to replicate his international performances at the club level.

Seeking a fresh start, Ounahi secured a season-long loan move to Greek side Panathinaikos at the beginning of the current campaign. The Athens-based club paid a €500,000 loan fee and negotiated a purchase option estimated at around €11 million.

Recent reports suggest that Panathinaikos is seriously considering exercising this purchase option. Ounahi has featured in 19 matches since his arrival and has gradually won the trust of the club’s management and coaching staff. His improved performances and growing influence on the team have made a permanent transfer an attractive prospect for the Greek outfit.

As things stand, it appears increasingly likely that Ounahi will remain in Greece beyond this season, with a return to Marseille becoming less probable. The potential permanent move could provide Ounahi with the stability and playing time needed to rediscover the form that made him a standout player during Morocco’s impressive World Cup run.
