Newcastle United Target Promising Young Striker as Possible Wilson Successor

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for talented Greek teenager Stefanos Tzimas as they look to the future of their striking options. The 18-year-old forward, currently on loan at German side FC Nürnberg, has caught the eye of Premier League scouts with his impressive performances in Bundesliga 2.

With veteran striker Callum Wilson’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and his future at St James’ Park uncertain, Newcastle appear to be planning ahead. Tzimas has netted 7 goals in just 13 appearances in Germany’s second tier, earning him the label of a “monster in the making” from some talent scouts.

FC Nürnberg are expected to exercise their option to sign Tzimas permanently this summer for around €18 million, before potentially selling him on for a quick profit. Reports suggest the Greek youngster could be available for between €21-23 million (£17-19 million), which may represent good value for a player of his potential.

While Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Chelsea are also said to be monitoring Tzimas, Newcastle could offer a clearer path to first-team football. As the Magpies look to build for the future under Eddie Howe, Tzimas fits their profile of targeting young talent with room to develop.

Any move for Tzimas would likely come in the summer of 2025, giving Newcastle time to assess their striking options. With Alexander Isak impressing as the current first-choice forward, Tzimas could be viewed as a long-term successor to complement the Swedish international.

As Newcastle aim to establish themselves as regular European contenders, smart recruitment of emerging talent like Tzimas could be key to their ambitions. The Greek striker’s goalscoring exploits in Germany suggest he has the potential to make an impact in the Premier League if given the opportunity.
