Newcastle United eyeing move for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus, according to reports from Spain. The Magpies are looking to add fresh talent to their squad, with manager Eddie Howe emphasizing the need for “freshness” to avoid staleness.

Kudus has impressed since joining West Ham from Ajax in 2023, showcasing his talents against Newcastle with a goal and assist in a thrilling 7-goal match at St James’ Park last season. Described as an “explosive, skillful player” with “match-winning quality”, the 24-year-old Ghanaian has caught the eye of several top clubs.

Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be monitoring Kudus, but any January move could prove costly. West Ham may demand up to £90 million for the forward, which could be a stumbling block even for cash-rich Newcastle.

While Newcastle have shown willingness to spend big, as evidenced by their pursuit of Marc Guehi last summer, it’s unclear if they would commit such a large portion of their budget to one player. A summer transfer may be more likely for all interested parties.

Despite the high price tag, Kudus’ age and potential make him an attractive target as Newcastle look to take the next step in their development. The club is also reportedly interested in strengthening their defense and right wing, with players like Noni Madueke and Johan Bakayoko linked in recent months.

As the January transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will make a move for Kudus or explore other options to reinvigorate their squad. The coming weeks should provide more clarity on the Magpies’ transfer plans and their pursuit of the talented West Ham star.
