Newcastle United Considers Selling Key Player at Discounted Rate in January
Newcastle United is reportedly in discussions to potentially transfer Miguel Almiron to Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC for half of their original asking price during the January transfer window.
The Premier League club initially demanded $20 million (£16 million) for the Paraguayan winger last summer. However, they are now open to accepting an offer of $10 million (£8 million) to facilitate his move to the United States.
At 30 years old and with his contract set to expire in 2026, this appears to be a strategic time for Newcastle to cash in on Almiron. Despite his strong work ethic and dedication to the team, his offensive production has not met the high standards required by manager Eddie Howe, with just 30 goals and 12 assists in 218 appearances for the Magpies.
While Almiron has been praised for his pace and contribution to Newcastle’s improved performances in recent seasons, the emergence of players like Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes has reduced his importance to the squad. As Newcastle looks to strengthen its attacking options, selling Almiron could free up resources for new signings.
If the transfer goes through, Newcastle fans will likely remember Almiron fondly for his commitment and energy on the pitch, even if his overall impact fell short of expectations for a player in his position at a top Premier League club.
