Newcastle United Considering January Move for Premier League Striker
Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing an established Premier League striker in the January transfer window. The club is exploring potential low-cost options due to financial constraints.
With Callum Wilson’s recent injury setback leaving manager Eddie Howe short of attacking options, Newcastle are monitoring Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s situation. The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he could be available for a reduced fee in January or on a free transfer next summer.
Calvert-Lewin has scored 56 goals in 228 Premier League appearances over his career. His most prolific season came in 2020-21 when he netted 16 times in 33 games. However, his form has dipped in recent campaigns, raising questions about whether he would be a worthwhile signing for Newcastle.
The Magpies may face competition for Calvert-Lewin’s signature, with AS Monaco, AC Milan and Arsenal also said to be monitoring the striker. Newcastle’s ability to make signings in January depends on player departures, according to manager Eddie Howe.
While striker depth is a concern, reports suggest signing a new winger is Newcastle’s top priority for the January window. With Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson already at the club when fit, it remains to be seen where Calvert-Lewin would fit into the squad if signed.
