Nantes Unable to Secure Habib Beye as New Manager
FC Nantes’ quest for a new head coach has hit another roadblock as negotiations with Habib Beye have broken down. The Ligue 1 club’s attempt to replace Antoine Kombouaré with the former Marseille and Newcastle defender has proved unsuccessful, despite initial optimism.
After failing to lure Sergio Conceição back for a second stint, Nantes intensified discussions with Beye, who recently led Red Star to promotion to Ligue 2. Despite coming close to an agreement that would have seen Beye take charge until the end of the season, talks ultimately collapsed.
The main stumbling block appears to have been Beye’s proposed coaching staff. Former Real Madrid fitness coach Grégory Dupont declined to join the project, while Beye’s attempts to bring in his former Red Star goalkeeping coach Faouzi Amzal were thwarted by contractual obligations. The other staff members suggested by Beye failed to impress the Nantes board, leading to the termination of negotiations.
With no apparent backup plan, Nantes now find themselves in a difficult position. As it stands, Kombouaré is expected to remain in charge for the club’s upcoming Coupe de France match against fifth-tier Drancy on Saturday.
The failed appointment leaves Nantes’ managerial situation in limbo, with no clear path forward as they seek to stabilize their position in Ligue 1. The club will need to regroup quickly and explore other options if they hope to make a change before the crucial second half of the season begins.
