Mourinho Reflects on Real Madrid Exit: A Decision He Now Regrets
Jose Mourinho, the current manager of Fenerbahce, has recently shared insights into a career decision he now regrets. The Portuguese tactician opened up about his departure from Real Madrid, expressing remorse over leaving the Spanish giants prematurely.
“When it comes to matches, there are many I regret because losses always make you think you could have done things differently, and I’ve had my fair share of defeats,” Mourinho explained. “But in terms of professional choices, turning down Florentino Perez (Real Madrid’s president) is my biggest regret. He told me, ‘Mou, don’t leave now. You’ve done the hardest part, and great things are ahead.’ I knew he was right, but I was eager to return to Chelsea after three challenging years in Spain.”
Mourinho’s tenure at Real Madrid lasted from 2010 to 2013. During his time with the club, he secured one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey, and one Supercopa de España. Despite these achievements, the manager’s decision to leave Madrid continues to weigh on his mind, highlighting the complex nature of career choices in top-level football management.
