Monza Appoints Bocchetti as New Head Coach After Dismissing Nesta
Serie A strugglers Monza have announced the appointment of former defender Salvatore Bocchetti as their new head coach. This move comes after the club parted ways with Alessandro Nesta due to poor results.
The Brianza-based club confirmed on Monday that Bocchetti has signed a long-term contract running until June 30, 2027. This appointment marks a significant shift for Monza as they look to turn their fortunes around in Italy’s top flight.
Monza currently find themselves at the bottom of the Serie A table, having accumulated just 10 points from 17 matches. Their disappointing run includes only one victory this season, with their most recent defeat coming against Juventus in a 2-1 loss on Sunday.
While Bocchetti’s Serie A coaching experience is limited, he notably assisted Marco Zaffaroni at Hellas Verona in the latter half of the 2022-23 season. Their collaborative efforts were instrumental in helping Verona avoid relegation to Serie B.
Bocchetti’s debut as Monza’s head coach is scheduled for this Saturday in a crucial away match against fellow relegation-threatened side Parma at the Stadio Tardini. His first home game will take place in early 2025 against Cagliari, another team battling to avoid the drop to Italy’s second division.
As Monza embarks on this new chapter under Bocchetti’s leadership, fans and observers alike will be keen to see if the former Serie A defender can steer the club away from the relegation zone and towards safety in the top flight.
