McKenna Needs to Shake Up Ipswich Lineup Following Newcastle Thrashing
Ipswich Town’s confidence took a major hit after a convincing 4-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United on Saturday. The loss highlighted the gulf in quality between the Premier League’s top teams and those fighting to avoid relegation.
Manager Kieran McKenna now faces some difficult decisions, particularly regarding goalkeeper Arijanet Muric and right-back Harry Clarke, who both struggled against Newcastle’s attack.
Muric’s Goalkeeping Woes
Muric had another shaky performance, failing to keep out Alexander Isak’s early strike and looking unconvincing throughout the match. With just one clean sheet in 16 Premier League appearances this season, McKenna may consider dropping the Kosovo international.
Clarke’s Defensive Struggles
Clarke also had a poor showing, losing possession 13 times and failing to make a single tackle against Newcastle’s wingers. His passing was wayward, completing 0 of 7 attempted long balls and 0 of 1 crosses.
With limited defensive options due to injuries, McKenna may turn to summer signing Ben Johnson to replace Clarke for the upcoming match against Arsenal.
After such a disappointing performance, the Ipswich manager will need to make some changes to avoid another heavy defeat when they travel to face Arsenal on December 27th.
