Manchester United Target Dusan Vlahovic as Potential Van Persie Successor
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic as they look to bolster their attacking options. The Serbian forward has drawn comparisons to former United star Robin van Persie and could be the goalscorer the club desperately needs.
United have struggled for form recently, winning just one of their last five matches across all competitions. With a tough trip to league leaders Liverpool looming, manager Erik ten Hag is keen to add more firepower to his misfiring squad.
According to Italian journalist Enrico Camelio, United are exploring the possibility of signing Vlahovic in a potential swap deal involving Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee. The 24-year-old Vlahovic has impressed for Juventus this season, scoring 12 goals in 22 appearances.
Vlahovic’s overall record for Juventus is strong, with 53 goals in 123 games since joining from Fiorentina in 2022. His best campaign came in 2023/24 when he netted 16 times in Serie A.
Football scout Ben Mattinson has highlighted the similarities between Vlahovic and United legend Van Persie, noting their powerful left foot, physical presence and clinical finishing ability. Van Persie scored 58 goals in 105 games for United, playing a crucial role in their 2012/13 Premier League title win.
At £354,000 per week, Vlahovic would be a significant investment for United. However, his goalscoring record and potential to emulate Van Persie’s impact could make him worth the outlay as the club looks to return to trophy contention.
While a January move may be complicated, United will likely continue monitoring Vlahovic’s situation closely. If they can secure his signature, the “monster” striker could be the transformative signing needed to revive their faltering season.
