Manchester United Target £60k-p/w “Monster” Striker as Potential January Boost

Manchester United’s poor form continues as they sit 14th in the Premier League table after 18 matches. With crucial games against Liverpool and Arsenal coming up, the Red Devils are desperate for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

According to reports in Spain, United are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward has been in excellent form this season, scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances.

Cunha has outperformed his expected goals (xG) by 6 goals, making him the most clinical finisher in the Premier League so far. He also leads the league in shot-creating and goal-creating actions among strikers.

While Wolves would be reluctant to sell their top scorer mid-season, United may test their resolve with a big-money offer. Cunha currently earns around £60,000 per week at Wolves.

If United can secure Cunha’s signature, he could have a similar impact to Bruno Fernandes, who joined in January 2020 and transformed the team’s fortunes. Fernandes has since scored 85 goals and provided 76 assists in 260 appearances for United.

With United struggling for goals this season, Cunha’s clinical finishing and creativity could provide a much-needed boost as they look to salvage their campaign. The 24-year-old Brazilian looks to be entering his prime and could be the ideal January addition for Erik ten Hag’s side.

While January deals are notoriously difficult to complete, United have shown with Fernandes that the right mid-season signing can be transformative. Cunha’s form suggests he could have a similar impact if United can pry him away from Wolves next month.
