Manchester United Submit Bid for £58m PSG Star After Talks with Amorim
Manchester United are looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window amid a difficult run of form. Reports suggest they have made an offer for Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes, who is valued at £58 million.
According to sources, Mendes has already had discussions with Ruben Amorim, who is tipped to become United’s next manager. The Portuguese coach previously worked with Mendes at Sporting CP and is said to have had a convincing conversation with the player about a potential move to Old Trafford.
At just 22 years old, Mendes is considered one of Europe’s top young left-backs. He could provide an immediate upgrade for United in that position, offering more attacking threat than current option Diogo Dalot. Statistics show Mendes creates more chances and makes more ball recoveries per 90 minutes compared to Dalot this season.
With Luke Shaw’s injury issues continuing, United view Mendes as a long-term solution at left-back. His existing relationship with Amorim and attacking style of play make him an ideal fit for the manager’s preferred 3-4-2-1 system.
Mendes’ current PSG contract runs until 2026, but he is reportedly unsatisfied with their renewal offer. This could give United an opportunity to negotiate a favorable deal in January as PSG look to avoid losing the player for free later.
If United can complete the signing, it would represent a major coup and signal their intent to back Amorim’s vision for rebuilding the squad. The “explosive” Mendes has the potential to be a transformative addition as United aim to climb back up the Premier League table.
