Manchester United Eye Kylian Mbappe as Possible Marcus Rashford Successor
Manchester United secured an impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City last weekend, with Amad Diallo playing a starring role. However, the absence of Marcus Rashford from the matchday squad has raised questions about his future at Old Trafford.
Rashford has been a key figure for United since breaking into the first team in 2015, scoring 138 goals in 426 appearances across all competitions. However, his form has dipped this season with just 7 goals in 24 games so far.
Reports suggest new manager Ruben Amorim may be willing to let Rashford leave as part of efforts to change the culture at the club. This has led to speculation about potential replacements, with Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe emerging as an ambitious target.
Mbappe is widely regarded as one of the best players in world football. The 25-year-old French international has already scored 12 goals in 22 appearances since joining Real Madrid. His pace, dribbling ability and clinical finishing could provide a significant upgrade on Rashford.
While signing Mbappe would represent a huge statement of intent from United, it would likely require a massive financial outlay. The forward is valued at around £121 million and commands enormous wages.
Any move for Mbappe would also go against recent comments from new United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe about focusing on developing young talent rather than spending huge sums on established stars. However, the opportunity to sign a player of Mbappe’s caliber may prove too tempting to ignore.
For now, Rashford remains a Manchester United player. But his omission from recent matchday squads has undoubtedly cast doubt over his long-term future at the club. Whether United can realistically attract a superstar like Mbappe as his replacement remains to be seen.
