Luis Enrique Faces Harsh Criticism in France: PSG’s Struggles Continue

Luis Enrique’s time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been far from smooth sailing. The Spanish coach is facing intense criticism due to the team’s poor performance, particularly in the Champions League. With only two matches remaining, PSG currently sits in 25th place in the European rankings, outside the qualification spots for the next round.

Despite a recent 3-0 victory over Salzburg in the Champions League group stage, the criticism of Enrique has not subsided. Former French international Christophe Dugarry has been particularly vocal, questioning Enrique’s credentials: “What makes him the best coach in the world? I’d like him to explain why he thinks Luis Enrique is the world’s best coach.”

Dugarry also criticized PSG president Al-Khelaifi for his continued support of Enrique: “It’s clear he likes his coach and intends to keep him, but explain why. Tell us what Luis Enrique has brought to your club. We still don’t know what it is. This PSG is repulsive to many people.”

In response to the mounting criticism, Al-Khelaifi has publicly backed Enrique: “Luis Enrique will stay with us. We’re building a long-term project with him, and he knows it. He’s a very good coach… We have the best coach in the world.”

Enrique recently released a documentary about his first year in Paris, which has not been well-received by the French media or some players, according to reports. This has further strained his relationship with the press. Despite the widespread disapproval from French media, Enrique, who has a contract until 2027, appears set to continue as PSG’s manager for the time being.
