Luis Enrique Claims Current Season as His Best Coaching Performance
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has defended his coaching performance this season, asserting it as his best yet despite facing considerable criticism. Speaking before PSG’s recent Ligue 1 victory over Lyon, Enrique addressed the media’s assessment of his tenure.
“I’ve faced criticism and even false claims from journalists, not fans. However, I’m pleased with our progress this season,” Enrique stated. He went on to claim, “From a statistical standpoint, this is the most successful season of my coaching career,” – a bold statement from the coach who led Barcelona to Champions League glory in 2014-15.
The numbers in Ligue 1 support Enrique’s assertion to some extent. After 15 matches, PSG has accumulated 37 points, surpassing last season’s tally at the same stage by one point. However, their Champions League campaign tells a different story, with the Parisian club currently sitting outside the qualification spots for the knockout phase.
When questioned about PSG’s European struggles, Enrique acknowledged the situation, stating, “Deserved or not, it’s the reality we face. Our focus is on improving our position.” He also defended his tactical flexibility, emphasizing the importance of adapting strategies based on the opposition.
Despite the mixed results, Enrique remains confident in his approach and the team’s potential for improvement as the season progresses.
