Liverpool Targeting £50m “Big Talent” Nico Gonzalez for 2025 Transfer
Liverpool are having an excellent season so far under new manager Arne Slot, sitting top of the Premier League table at Christmas with 39 points from 17 games. While Mohamed Salah has been their standout player with 18 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, the Reds are already looking ahead to further strengthen their squad.
According to reports, Liverpool scouts have been hugely impressed by Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez this season. The 22-year-old Spaniard, who came through Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, has caught the eye with his performances in Portugal.
Gonzalez has scored 5 goals and provided several assists in 24 appearances for Porto this term. Described as a “big talent” and potential heir to Sergio Busquets, he is a versatile midfielder known for his high energy, pressing ability and creativity.
While Barcelona have a £50m buyback clause for Gonzalez, Liverpool may need to pay a similar fee to sign him in 2025. The Reds were previously interested in Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi last summer, and see Gonzalez as a similar type of player who could bolster their midfield options.
With his La Masia background and ability to play as a number 6, 8 or 10, Gonzalez would provide Slot with increased tactical flexibility. At around £50m, he could prove to be a shrewd long-term investment as Liverpool look to sustain their title challenge this season and beyond.
