Liverpool midfielder’s lackluster showing matches Alexander-Arnold’s struggles vs Man United

Liverpool dropped points at home in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United, despite goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. The result keeps Liverpool 6 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with 19 games remaining.

While several Liverpool players underperformed, midfielder Curtis Jones particularly struggled to make an impact. Jones managed just 37 touches in 61 minutes played, completing only 25 passes with 89% accuracy. He failed to register any shots, key passes or successful dribbles.

Jones lost possession 6 times and won only 50% of his duels before being substituted on the hour mark. His ineffective display rivaled that of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also struggled badly against United’s low block.

Given this poor showing, Jones may find himself dropped from the starting lineup for Liverpool’s upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham. Manager Arne Slot will hope Dominik Szoboszlai recovers from illness to potentially replace Jones in midfield.

While Jones has shown promise this season with 3 league goals, his inability to influence the game against United raises questions about his readiness for big matches. The 23-year-old will need to bounce back quickly to maintain his place in Liverpool’s competitive midfield rotation.
