Lille President Reveals Low Profit from Osimhen’s Napoli Transfer
In a surprising revelation, Lille President Olivier Letang has stated that the French club only netted around €7 million from Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Napoli in 2020. This is in stark contrast to the widely reported transfer fee of over €70 million.
Speaking to L’Equipe TV, Letang explained that after factoring in the original purchase cost of Osimhen, the valuation of four Napoli players included in the deal, and various commissions and intermediary fees, Lille’s actual profit was significantly lower than expected.
The transfer has been under scrutiny by Italian and French authorities, though Napoli’s lawyer has stated that the club has been cleared of any wrongdoing in two separate investigations.
Osimhen’s impact at Napoli has been substantial, with 76 goals in 133 appearances and a crucial role in the team’s 2023 Serie A title win. The Nigerian striker is currently on loan at Galatasaray, where he continues to impress with 10 goals in 14 games.
While Osimhen remains under contract with Napoli until 2026, there are clauses allowing for his potential departure in upcoming transfer windows. This situation, coupled with the financial revelations from Lille, adds intrigue to the player’s future prospects and the complexities of modern football transfers.
