Lautaro Martinez on Evolving Role and Ambitions at Inter
Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has opened up about his evolving role in the team alongside new signing Marcus Thuram. While Martinez’s goal scoring has decreased this season, he expressed satisfaction with his overall contributions and partnership with Thuram.
“As a forward, I live for goals,” Martinez said. “But lately I’ve been playing deeper to help build up attacks. It’s a new aspect I’m adding to my game and I feel good about it. Marcus is now playing more centrally as the main striker. This wasn’t planned, it just developed naturally on the field.”
The Argentine international acknowledged struggling physically early in the season after a short offseason. “After winning Copa America, I returned from vacation early due to an injury situation. My body was catching up at times. But I’m feeling better now,” he explained.
As Inter’s captain, Martinez aims to lead by example even when not scoring. “The key is always giving 100%, even when things aren’t going your way. That’s the mentality I try to instill in the team,” he said.
Looking ahead, the striker has lofty goals for Inter: “I want to win everything. Once you start winning trophies, you don’t want to stop. Even after the World Cup, I realized there’s still so much more to achieve here.”
