La Liga Objects to CSD’s Temporary Measure Allowing Barcelona Player Registrations
The Spanish Sports Council (CSD) has granted a temporary measure allowing FC Barcelona to register players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. La Liga, which had previously denied the registrations, has issued a press release expressing its “absolute disagreement” with this controversial decision by the political body.
As La Liga notes in its statement, the player registrations will be validated temporarily until the process is completed. It’s important to highlight that this measure is temporary, and within three months, La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation must present their reasons for initially rejecting the registrations. If both organizations can demonstrate to the CSD that they were justified, the registrations could be invalidated in April.
With this CSD decision, La Liga is now obligated to register both players despite its objections. The league stated it will “carefully study the content of the resolution to file appropriate appeals, without prejudice to expressing its absolute disagreement with it.” La Liga will maintain “the validity of these players’ licenses until the appeal filed against the Agreement of the RFEF-La Liga Coordination Convention Monitoring Commission is definitively resolved.”
La Liga also emphasized that it was not notified of the decision, which “was adopted without having transferred the appeal or given La Liga or the RFEF the opportunity to present arguments, so at this time the arguments put forward by the players and FC Barcelona in the appeal are unknown.”
The league plans to thoroughly examine the ruling and consider its legal options, while maintaining its strong opposition to the decision. La Liga also noted that the initial agreement to deny the registrations was made jointly with the Spanish Football Federation, as explained in the official minutes.
