Juventus Exploring Loan Move for Newcastle Defender Lloyd Kelly
According to recent reports, Juventus is actively pursuing a deal to bring Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly to Turin on loan. The Italian giants are looking to strengthen their backline following injuries to key players earlier in the season.
Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is said to be leading negotiations with Newcastle for the versatile 25-year-old defender. The Bianconeri have already signed Alberto Costa from Vitoria Guimaraes this window, but are keen to add another defensive option.
While initial reports suggested Juventus were preparing a permanent transfer bid around €12 million, the latest updates indicate they are now exploring a loan deal with a potential obligation to buy based on certain performance conditions. This structure would allow Juventus to bolster their squad immediately while deferring some of the financial commitment.
Kelly’s ability to play both center-back and left-back makes him an attractive option as Juventus look to provide manager Thiago Motta with more defensive depth for the second half of the season. The England U21 international has made 15 appearances for Newcastle this season across all competitions.
As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen if Newcastle will be open to letting Kelly leave on loan mid-season. However, Juventus appear determined to find a way to bring the defender to Serie A before the January transfer window closes.
