Inter Fails to Capitalize on Chance to Gain Ground
Inter Milan squandered an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Napoli, settling for a 2-2 draw with Bologna at San Siro. Despite taking a 2-1 lead through goals from Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez, Inter conceded a second-half equalizer to Holm following defensive errors.
Manager Simone Inzaghi will rue his side’s inability to see out the victory, especially given Napoli’s recent stumbles. The result mirrors last season’s draw against Bologna, though the visitors now have Thiago Motta at the helm instead of their previous coach.
Lautaro Martinez put in a stellar performance but was curiously substituted with 15-20 minutes remaining, raising questions about Inzaghi’s in-game management. Other standouts included Barella, Dumfries and Dimarco, though the latter was partially at fault for Bologna’s equalizer.
New signings Asllani and Zielinski had quiet games, while Taremi failed to make an impact off the bench. Referee Pairetto also struggled, continuing his poor run of form officiating Serie A matches.
While not a disastrous result, Inter will feel they missed a prime chance to put pressure on Napoli in the title race. With a favorable upcoming schedule, they’ll need to be more clinical to keep pace at the top of the table.
