Insider: West Ham Poised to Acquire Premier Striker as Antonio Replacement in January Window
West Ham United are reportedly gearing up to secure a top-tier signing in January to bolster their attacking options following Michail Antonio’s serious car accident. The Jamaican striker is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the Premier League season after undergoing leg surgery.
The Hammers are now facing a shortage of forward options, with summer acquisition Niclas Füllkrug also injured and Danny Ings struggling for playing time. This has left manager Julen Lopetegui resorting to using Jarrod Bowen as a makeshift striker.
According to former Premier League scout Mick Brown, West Ham are likely to pursue a loan deal for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson in January. The 20-year-old Irish striker has impressed in limited appearances but has found his opportunities limited under new Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.
Brown believes Ferguson would be an ideal fit for West Ham, praising his playing style and physical attributes. He stated, “Ferguson is highly regarded and there’s significant interest in him. He matches West Ham’s needs in Antonio’s absence with his style of play and strong physical presence.”
The insider added, “I anticipate Ferguson leaving Brighton on loan, and I expect West Ham to make a move for him.” This potential deal could provide Ferguson with much-needed playing time while addressing West Ham’s striker shortage for the second half of the season.
